Excel alternative for intercompany reconciliation
Last reviewed: September 2026
Most group intercompany files start in Excel. That is fine until corridors, FX residuals and audit questions outgrow a shared workbook. Ninon is an alternative for that job: ranked matches, a documented review, and memory across closes — not a ban on spreadsheets for analysis.
The job Excel is hired for
Controllers paste two extracts, VLOOKUP corridors, and email a file. It is fast to start, familiar to auditors as a working paper, and infinitely flexible. The failure mode is version drift, undocumented exceptions, and rebuilding the same file every period.
Where Ninon stops
Ninon does not replace Excel as an analysis tool, and we do not claim “no more spreadsheets”. You can still export and work offline. What moves into the workspace is the matching queue, sign-off trail, and reuse of prior decisions — so the close file is not a new workbook from scratch.
When to stay on Excel
Two entities, one currency, no external audit pressure: a careful workbook may be enough. Move when entity count, ERP diversity or evidence requests make the file the operational risk. A Close Pilot is how we test that on one real period before an annual Workspace.
